Dr Paul Young

Head of Science – JBA Risk Management Ltd.

Paul leads our scientific outputs and research partnerships, telling the world about decades of scientific contributions and innovation from JBA, and building connections and collaborations with academia and other research partners. He works to ensure that JBA develops and uses cutting-edge science in our data and models as well as shares broader insights about natural hazard risk and disaster risk reduction in a changing climate. Through an internship programme and supervision of students supported by the JBA Trust, he also sees to JBA’s contributions to training the next generation of environmental risk scientists.

Paul joined JBA Risk Management in 2022 after nearly 20 years in academia, latterly at Lancaster University, where he led a climate and atmospheric science research group and was an associate director of the Lancaster Environment Centre. He has published extensively in the peer-reviewed literature, been a lead author of international UN-sponsored reports, trained over a dozen graduate students, and worked with businesses, communities, and artists to better understand and communicate global environmental change.
