Following Hurricane Harvey (now a tropical storm), JBA has developed preliminary event footprint data and a short report describing the event to date and the modelling work carried out to develop the footprint.

The footprint covers flooding to date (only) and the area covered includes parts of Texas and Louisiana. Frequent updates will be issued to the data and report as the event unfolds over the coming days.

Floods in Southern Africa: January 2026

Recent flooding across the Pacific Northwest highlights the recurring impact of atmospheric river events on the region. A powerful winter storm, fueled by huge quantities of moisture transported across the Pacific Ocean, has brought widespread flooding to Oregon and Washington in the US, and British Columbia in Canada.

Cylone Ditwah: November 2025

In late November 2025, a cyclonic storm better known as “Cyclone Ditwah” emerged from the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal and made landfall on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka on 27 November 2025 just before 12:00 UTC. The landfall unleashed torrential rainfall, widespread flooding, and deadly landslides that overwhelmed communities across 25 districts.
