Flood Map Updates for Asia

I Stock 1174175318 Globe tech Asia LR

As part of our ongoing improvement programme for our global flood maps, maps for Vietnam, Thailand and India have recently been updated. Our regular map updates aim to deliver a more consistent and detailed view of flood hazard within the specific region.
These updates include the following:

  • Enhanced technology Utilising advancements in mapping technology to generate an improved view of flood hazard. Implementing bare-earth Digital Terrain Model (DTM) to get an accurate view at true ground level without any features that potentially distort elevation data, resulting in improved flood depth and flow pattern accuracy.
  • Improved river and surface water flood type classification Differentiating between river and surface water flooding to pinpoint where floods originate from and how they affect different areas. This clarity offers more detailed flood risk insight enabling insurers to make more informed decisions to better mitigate risk.
  • Updated data application Updated land use data and updated defended areas provide refreshed information on new flood defences, urban developments, agricultural areas and infrastructure changes. The additional data enables optimised modelling, improved flood prediction and enhanced strategic planning.
  • New coastal flood data New data has been developed recently for all three areas  at 30m resolution in line with surface water and river flood and developed using peer reviewed estimates of extreme sea level from the Global Tide and Surge Model (GTSM), mapped onto high-quality coastal terrain data.
