Technical Copy editor

We are looking for an experienced copy editor with a keen eye for technical detail to join our marketing team. Assisting project managers and team leaders in developing client-facing highly scientific technical documentation, you’ll ensure our collateral showcases JBA’s science at its best.

The role will work closely with the technical teams, providing support to those working on technical documentation, particularly in relation to the correct use of company standard layouts, structure, design, language and appearance. The role will also involve working closely with the wider marketing team who have responsibility for defining document templates and standards; technical leads who will ensure the quality of technical output; and the business development team who will ensure that the material meets client needs.

The role will suit an individual who enjoys collaborative working and is willing to dedicate their time to the production of high-quality material that reflects the strong technical skills of our company. We value a thorough and consistent approach to the presentation of our science, creating material that can be understood by an audience with a broad range of technical skills in the insurance industry. Excellent written English skills are therefore essential and a background in the preparation of scientific papers, reports and literature is of importance.

There is the opportunity for this role to be extended to help implement JBA Group quality assurance policy within JBA Risk Management and assist in developing and rolling out new procedures where necessary. The role may also vary slightly according to the skills and experience of the individual we recruit.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • preparation of client-facing literature;
  • supporting technical teams with drafting, designing and developing documentation;
  • ensuring consistency of branding, terminology and appearance;
  • proofreading of documents and grammatical checks;
  • providing and maintaining grammatical, report writing, formatting and branding guidance;
  • proactively upgrading and improving the quality of existing company literature and presentations;
  • ensuring simple but effective approval processes and storage for our documentation;
  • where required, input to the design and layout of company standard literature and templates.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The following skills are essential:

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • impeccable written English;
  • close attention to detail;
  • excellent organisational skills and ability to self-manage;
  • proofreading and editing skills;
  • collaborative working skills;
  • the ability to enthuse staff to create and maintain the highest possible quality of written work;
  • expert user of MS Word and PowerPoint (required but training can be provided).

ADDITIONAL USEFUL (BUT NOT ESSENTIAL) SKILLS INCLUDE:

  • background in science, maths, natural catastrophes or insurance;
  • experience in the implementation of quality assurance processes;

This is an ideal role for a dedicated and patient individual who naturally applies high standards of quality to all their work yet has a pragmatic and relaxed approach to enthusing others to meet those standards. The role is likely to involve discussion, persuasion and negotiation, and the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to support and work collaboratively with both senior and junior colleagues within the company.

LOCATION and working hours

This is a part-time position based near Skipton (North Yorkshire), 20 to 25 hours per week or to suit the candidate. Our offices are located in the beautiful countryside setting of the Broughton Hall Estate.
