Taking a different approach to natural hazard

Are you an experienced insurance specialist wanting to use your knowledge in a new way? Do you want to make a lifestyle change and work in stunning country surroundings? This is a unique opportunity to join a well-established and expanding global company where you can make your mark, hone your skills and develop within a business that has an open and forward-thinking approach.

The position

Managing flood risk and other natural perils isn’t easy for insurers, especially in light of a changing climate. At JBA Risk Management, we help our clients to use our market leading hazard maps, catastrophe models and analytics to manage and quantify that risk. We supply flood data to the vast majority of UK insurers.

As a Senior Insurance Specialist, reporting to one of our business founders and Head of Mapping, Jill Boulton, you’ll be responsible for building and managing relationships with our insurance clients and developing new products to ensure they get the most out of the JBA data.

You’ll need to have experience working in the insurance industry, pricing and/or underwriting of property, and be able to apply your knowledge of the insurance sector to our data, helping to define our future approach to make our data the best it can be for our clients. You’ll have the opportunity to help develop our products within these markets, making sure they meet our client needs.

You’ll be based at our new head office in North Yorkshire, set in stunning surroundings (watch our video to get a taste) and have easy access to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. You can balance this enviable lifestyle with the fast-paced nature of our work, helping to develop and support our network of new and existing insurance clients. The role requires some travel to visit clients, mostly around the UK and Ireland, so city life will never be too far away.

Being a motivated self-starter, a quick learner and good communicator will help you to drive new business, as well as to support our current clients. You’ll need to be flexible and enjoy working both alone and as part of the team, be organised and adaptable – and love a challenge! A typical week might include negotiating contracts, providing training and presentations to a wide variety of clients (technical and non-technical) and product development. As a result, you’ll need good numeracy skills, attention to detail, be comfortable with innovative technology and be able to demonstrate excellent presentation and report writing skills.

Previous experience using JBA data within the insurance industry and CII qualifications would be an advantage. However, we will provide training for any high-quality candidates who we consider a good fit for the team.

The Package

In return, JBA offers a competitive market salary, a comprehensive benefits package and flexible working arrangements. JBA is committed to helping employees continue their professional development, so you’ll also receive a generous training budget each year as well as support in achieving professional memberships.

Our team is made of up of some of the best technical minds in the industry, so you’ll be supported by the experts. We’re also a friendly bunch, with lunchtime walks in the countryside and after work socials a regular occurrence, from curry nights to go-karting.

Location

The role will be based in our Broughton Park office near Skipton (North Yorkshire). The office is located on the Broughton Hall estate and is surrounded by 3000 acres of parkland, farmland, woodland and moors. This unique work setting sits on the boundary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
