Quality and Efficiency Lead


We are looking for a numerically and scientifically literate individual to join us and support the delivery of Catastrophe Risk solutions within our Consultancy team. The Consultancy team works on a large range of client-led projects in both the re/insurance and international development sectors. With a high turnover of projects, it’s important that quality, efficiency and consistency are at the forefront of project planning and execution.

Your role

The role will work across the entire Consultancy team and focus on bringing greater project efficiency through implementing standard validation tests, analysis plans, and executing clear guidance. You will have the opportunity to work closely with a variety of teams across the company each consisting of individuals with diverse knowledge and experience. This role will include close liaison with the central Quality team to ensure consistency and best practice is being applied across the company.

You will be comfortable manipulating spatial data and understand precision, accuracy and correctness. You need not be a software developer, but your skills in this area will exceed those of the regular computer user and you will be unafraid of code. You will have the ability to work with a variety of people with differing knowledge and backgrounds, be flexible in response to changing priorities and not be intimidated by novel concepts.

The team member we’re looking for

Our team’s ideal candidate will have an undergraduate (and preferably) a post graduate degree related to either Hydrology, Computer Science, Geographical Information Systems, Mathematics, Natural Hazards, Meteorology, Earth Sciences, or similar. Domain specific experience is less important than evidence of strong analytical capabilities and the ability to learn.

Essential attributes you should demonstrate include:

  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline
  • Interest in the Natural Hazards and Catastrophe Modelling
  • Professional manner with strong interpersonal skills, demonstrable ability to interact with colleagues over a wide range of seniority and knowledge
  • Demonstrable ability to understand and communicate technical concepts in person and in writing
  • Experience with GIS platforms (e.g. QGIS, ArcMap)Experience of organising your own time
  • Ability to distinguish important from unimportant details and work in a focussed manner on those details that matter
  • Experience of teamwork/collaborative environments both in person and via collaboration technologies
  • Experience of Linux command line with scripting
  • Competent use of core MS Office 365 suite of tools (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams)

Additionally, you ideally would demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Postgraduate degree in related discipline
  • Experience of software platform testing/evaluation – particularly web interfaces
  • Coding experience in a high-level language using source control e.g. Python, R, SQL
  • Knowledge of machine learning methods
