What can I do at JBA?

Flood Mapping

Our flood mapping teams produce high-resolution global flood maps for some of the world's largest organisations, using sophisticated hydrology and hydraulic approaches. We’re proud to be pioneers in our field and are known to our clients as The Flood People. Our sophisticated mapping techniques are underpinned by cutting-edge science and our focus is on continuous innovation. We were the first to use gaming technology to run our 2D hydraulic modelling software (JFlow), the first to make global flood maps commercially available and the first to produce the highest resolution flood maps for the US at 5m resolution.

Catastrophe Modelling

Our catastrophe modelling teams develop market-leading flood models for some of the largest companies worldwide. Using cutting-edge methodologies, sophisticated data analysis and in-depth research, our probabilistic catastrophe models enable our clients to make informed decisions on their risk. We also undertake bespoke consultancy work for clients with individual needs. We strive for innovation and remain at the forefront of our industry, producing the first UK Climate Change Flood Model and the first Global Flood Model in the market.

Software Development

Our software development team produces the tools we use to build our maps and run our models; in other words, they help to remove big and complex computation problems. We are constantly searching for better, faster, more automated and more correct ways to deliver data and results. We collaborate with partners to place ourselves at the forefront of technological trends in our industry, working across a variety of languages and stacks. We pioneered JBA's new analysis engine, FLY, which enables flood modelling on a global scale for the first time.
