Graduate Programme

Applications are open from now until 31 December for the JBA Risk Management Graduate Programme.

It’s your chance to be part of one of the world’s best flood risk management companies.

You’ll follow a competency-based learning and professional development framework, allowing you to build essential skills such as project management, client management, leadership, technical skills and person effectiveness. This is supported by a structured training programme made up of modules delivered in easily accessed formats. You’ll get to contribute to pioneering projects straight away and you’ll also have the chance to rotate through different teams within the business to broaden your skills and knowledge.

We support new ideas and innovation and we believe that learning and development is key to that. We’re focused on helping our staff develop their skills and offer a generous training budget of £1200 per year to every member of staff. Our well-regarded professional development programme provides the opportunity to enhance and update technical and management skills throughout your career.  We encourage and support professional qualifications including chartered membership of professional associations.

Flood Mapping

Our flood mapping team produces high-resolution global flood maps for the insurance and property industries, utilising sophisticated hydrology and hydraulic approaches. We’re proud to be pioneers in our field and are affectionately known to our clients as The Flood People. Our sophisticated mapping techniques are underpinned by cutting-edge science and our focus is on continuous innovation. We were the first to use gaming technology to run our 2D hydraulic modelling software (JFlow), the first to make global flood maps commercially available and the first to produce the highest resolution flood maps for the state of Florida as we roll out our market-leading 5m US flood maps.

Catastrophe Modelling

Our catastrophe modelling teams develop market-leading flood models and global event sets for the (re)insurance industry, governmental and non-governmental organisations and financial institutions worldwide. Using cutting-edge methodologies, sophisticated data analysis and in-depth research, our probabilistic catastrophe models and event sets enable our clients to make informed decisions on their risk. We also undertake bespoke consultancy work for clients with individual needs, including analysis of global exposure and projects for disaster risk reduction purposes. We strive for innovation to remain at the forefront of our industry, leading us to produce the first Climate Change Flood Model for the UK insurance market, Thailand's first probabilistic national scale river model and the first fully probabilistic model assessing inland flooding from non-typhoon and typhoon-driven events in China.

Software Development

Our software development team produces the tools we use to build our maps and run our models; in other words, they help to remove big and complex computation problems. We are constantly searching for better, faster, more automated and more correct ways to deliver data and results. We collaborate with partners to place ourselves at the forefront of technological trends in our industry, working across a variety of languages and stacks, which cover machine learning; statistical modelling; cluster computing; OGC web services and user interfaces; raster processing; and other optimised GIS calculations.
