JBA leads the market in hazard mapping. Our innovative and modern approaches to data development and modelling are now available across much of Europe.

JBA’s hazard mapping is used by many of the major insurers, reinsurers, brokers, cat modelling companies and governments across the UK and Europe. Our risk maps provide a sophisticated assessment of risk to properties, incorporating exposure information as well as the underlying hazard.

Modelled with leading technology, including JBA’s proprietary and scientifically acclaimed 2D hydraulic model, JFlow®, mapping from JBA is synonymous with quality and consistency.

Flood hazard

Flood hazard mapping data from JBA contain extents and depths at high resolution; typically we offer 2D modelling at 5-10m resolutions, significantly more advanced than other commercial offerings. All territories listed below have been mapped for river flood at a number of return periods. Some also have maps available for other flood types such as surface water, coastal, dam break, canal failure and groundwater.

Risk maps

Currently in development for 2012, these risk maps combine hazard information from the hazard mapping and vulnerability information from the built environment data to provide a quantification of flood risk that can be used as direct input to pricing.

  • UK Freeze
  • UK Wind

Built environment data

We also provide mapping of the built environment. Information such as building type, starting floor and the presence or absence of a cellar is key to understanding the impact of a peril on a risk. JBA’s built environment models for the UK and Germany act as a proxy for structure type information where none exists in a portfolio. These datasets are available for licensing as part of a full model or as a tool on their own. We can also develop other data to meet your needs.

Historical event data

JBA has developed footprint data for a range of historical events:

  • Hurricane Andrew sea surge footprint analysis
  • UK flood events from Easter 1998, Autumn 2000 and Summer 2007
  • Mumbai 2005 and Surat 2006 floods

These can also be used as part of portfolio analysis study.

Models

JBA’s probabilistic models contain all you need to quantify your exposure easily and have been developed to give you a unique level of clarity and insight.

Developed using cutting-edge modelling techniques and advanced statistical methods, flood models are currently available for

  • Germany
  • Great Britain
  • India
